The Schaumburg Corporate Center
The Schaumburg Corporate Center
Project Description
The Schaumburg Corporate Center, a three building, one-million-square-foot complex located at 1475, 1501 and 1515 E. Woodfield Rd. in Schaumburg, IL., was developed in three phases beginning in 1980 up until 2002. All structures are designed using conventionally reinforced concrete slabs with wide, shallow post-tensioned beams
The building at 1501 is a 5 stories with a typical beam size of 120" wide by 13" deep. Whereas the building at 1515 is 14 stories with a typical beam size of 60" wide by 16" deep. Due to the deterioration of the PT cables in several beams, the buildings' owner retained Kline to perform a structural analysis of all existing beams on all levels of the two buildings.
Kline's primary objective was to determine the structural adequacy of the beams, and whether there was sufficient reserve capacity in the original design to consider the beams safe in the event that a portion of the PT is lost. The results of the analysis which was peer-reviewed by an Illinois licensed structural engineer was then used to determine which beams would require repair.
