Project Description

The Residences at Annapolis Junction is a transit-oriented development (TOD), five-story, 416-unit ultraluxury apartment community in Howard County, Maryland. The apartment building is part of a $180 million project which features housing, office, and retail spaces with a 704-space commuter parking garage.

Kline was retained to design the post-tensioned (PT) cast-in-place (CIP) podium slab at the 2nd floor of the apartment building using the Hambro composite floor system. The Hambro composite floor system consists of two elements: cold-formed steel joists and a thin concrete slab reinforced with wire mesh. The Hambro system has proven to be an economical framing solution for multi-family residential buildings.

The podium slab was designed to support 4 levels of wood structure for the apartments above, and consists of foundations, slab-on-grade, and one elevated level representing a total area of approximately 75,000 sq.ft.
