Project Description

Kline was retained to conduct slab analysis for the concrete repairs and shoring design during the repairs at the parking garage in Kaiser Fair Oaks Medical Center, located in Fairfax, VA.

The Fair Oaks garage, constructed around 1990, has a three-level surface parking facility. The property is split into two separate structures via an expansion joint spanning along the North-South Direction. The first framing plan is an 8" thick CIP slab and post-tensioned girders, while the second framing system consists of a steel frame with a composite metal deck. After our analysis, both framing plans needed repairs.

The objectives of this project were to calculate the jacking force required to re-establish the design prestress force into the required post-tensioning cables, and to provide shoring design for the floor system during jacking and repairing to support both slab systems. Both the shoring design and shoring layout were prepared accordingly by our team.
